Hey Treasure Valley! Logan here — owner of Boise Pest Pros, professional pest wrangler, and full-time defender of Christmas cheer!
While most folks are busy hanging lights, baking cookies, and passionately debating whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie (it is, and I will not be taking questions 😄), pests are out there planning their own holiday takeover. And trust me… they do not bring good tidings, comfort, or joy.
So grab some cocoa, settle in by the fire, and let me pull back the curtain on what pests are really up to this time of year and how to keep your home firmly on the “Nice List.”
🐭 Rodents: The Uninvited Christmas Guests
As soon as the temperature drops, mice and rats suddenly become very interested in your home. They’re not here for the presents; they want:
-
Warmth
-
Free snacks
-
And a cozy nesting spot inside your walls (because apparently walls are “in” this season)
If you hear scratching in the walls at night, it’s not Santa’s elves. It’s rodents hosting their own after-hours holiday party… and they didn’t even bring eggnog.
🎄 Pro Tip: If crumbs are left behind after holiday baking, rodents see that as an open invitation. So clean up like your in-laws are coming over.
🕷️ Spiders: The Christmas Decor You Didn’t Ask For
Nothing kills the festive vibe faster than spotting a spider casually hanging out in the corner like it paid rent.
Spiders move indoors during winter to escape the cold and hunt other pests. Think of them as freeloading security guards who look terrifying and refuse to leave.
While most spiders are harmless, I still don’t recommend letting them decorate your ceilings with surprise webs.
🐜 Ants: Still Working Overtime
You’d think ants would take a break for the holidays. Nope. These little overachievers are still clocked in, especially if you’ve got sweets, candy canes, fudge, or that one mysterious cookie tin nobody remembers baking.
Ants do not care that it’s Christmas morning. If there’s sugar in the house, they will find it — and they will tell their friends.
🎄 Christmas Trees & Decorations: Pest Uber Services
Live Christmas trees, wreaths, and stored decorations can sometimes bring along hitchhikers. Spiders, beetles, and other tiny grinches love hiding in:
-
Tree branches
-
Cardboard boxes
-
Garages and sheds
Before bringing decorations inside, give everything a good shake — preferably outside, unless you enjoy sudden chaos and high-pitched screaming.
🧑🔧 Logan’s Holiday Pest-Pro Wisdom
Here’s how to keep pests from turning your home into their winter vacation rental:
✔ Seal gaps and cracks around doors and windows
✔ Store food (and treats) in sealed containers
✔ Take out the trash regularly
✔ Don’t ignore weird noises — pests don’t magically disappear just because it’s Christmas
And if you spot something crawling where it absolutely shouldn’t be? That’s where we come in.
